The “Oliver Effect” as Log Sales increase!!

24 Feb

Well, you would think that as we move out of the “winter” period that things would start to drop off, but there are no signs of that happening. Indeed, the sales of the past few weeks are still increasing!! This is the result of a number of things, the continual steady growth of our customer base added to the reorders from our existing customers. The “Oliver Effect”!! There is no greater level of satisfaction a supplier can have, than to have customers returning for more!! The difference of course, is that we are more than happy to supply more!!

The other reason for the increase in sales, is that many people who stocked up in bulk back in September/October are starting to run low or run out of wood and need extra wood to see them through to the Spring. The one thing you can be absolutely certain of, with our logs, is that you can buy them today and use them today! And when you use them, they burn brightly, hot with great flame and no smoke.

Our bags are the biggest you can get whilst still being able to move them with a sack barrow. We deliver to your garage/shed/woodstore, we don’t dump it loose on the ground outside your house for you to clear up (although if you ask us nicely we are happy to do that!!). I haven’t yet been beaten on a delivery, and I have seen a few challenges!! I have taken bags THROUGH a customers house, I have squeezed down the side of many and it would appear that 95% of the population who own woodburners live uphill from the nearest place I can get the delivery to in a vehicle! More customers who live downhill would be greatly appreciated!!

Despite only being two and a half months into a new business, we have invested in better stillages for the kiln, the original wooden slatted boxes we were using reduced the airflow through the boxes (and therefore through the logs) and the wooden boxes themselves were not an efficient size as we were only able to use half of the kiln’s total cubic capacity. The new stillages are metal mesh sides, so they are effectively almost totally open to the airflow. They are much taller so we fill much greater capacity into the kiln, and they are on wheels!

The wheels mean that we can now rotate the stock in the kiln on a continual basis, so instead of having to process, load, dry, unload and bag up in complete kilns, we can now add new “wet” logs into the kiln to start the drying process as we remove dry ones to deliver to customers! This investment in stillages means that we have effectively doubled the previous capacity of what we could dry, the rotation means we can absolutely guarantee the logs are consistent in the moisture content (or lack of!!) as all the logs spend the same amount of time in the same areas of the kiln!

I did think that the log sales would drop off for the summer, but a popular garden accessory these days is a wood fired pizza oven and the last thing you want in these is smokey old logs!! So, for your pizza oven, summer BBQ and firepit, we will still be producing high quality, kiln dried logs throughout the year!!

So, go on, get yourselves some kiln dried logs ready for the summer, so that your guests at the summer BBQ/Pizza night will also have the “Oliver Effect” and be saying “please….I want some more!!”
