Well go on, I’m sure you have bought a “dumpy bag” of “seasoned timber” before, and then, when you put it on the fire, the smoke starts pouring off it!! So here is a REAL example of why you use a kiln dried, premium product. The fire is almost down to embers, no additional kindling, just take two good sized logs and place them on the embers, open the air flow to max, and 10 seconds later log one is burning brightly. 90 seconds in, the fire is ablaze, you can shut the airflow to control the burn, and your house is warm and toasty!!
